Victorinox is a very interesting company. It was started by Carl Elsener, with his mother’s help in 1884. His mother’s name was Victoria which is where the company name originated. He combined his mother’s name with “inox” a French word for rust resistant steel. The company was originally noted for the production of the Swiss Army Knife, a product that what produced for the Swiss Army and is known to schoolboys throughout the world.
Victorinox began manufacturing watches in 1989 under the brand Swiss Army by partnering with and eventually taking over SABI, a US based company. It next took over Wenger S.A., a noted quality watch manufacturer. The Wenger acquisition allowed both companies to compete with the cheap product ripoffs that were flooding the market by allowing their quality items to be produced at a lower cost.
Victorinox manufactures watches suitable for the most formal occasions to very functional watches treasured by underwater divers. Victorinox is a true Swiss based enterprise and although their watches are pricey, they are very unique in style and provide tremendous quality. They come with a limited three year warranty so your purchase is well protected by the company.
